The Art of Letting Go: Turning the Page to Your Dream Career
Hi, I’m Mark Goode, CEO of Inspired Recruitment Group, and I want to share something deeply personal and incredibly relevant to anyone considering a career move. Letting go can be one of the hardest things we do—whether it’s leaving a job, moving on from a challenging experience, or releasing self-doubt. Yet, it’s often the one thing standing between us and the career of our dreams.
Over the years, I’ve seen countless candidates hesitate to take that next step because they’re holding onto something from the past. It might be the fear of repeating a bad experience, the weight of a previous failure, or even the comfort of what feels familiar. But here’s the truth: holding onto those old chapters is like carrying a heavy rucksack while trying to climb a mountain. It weighs you down, exhausts you, and makes it almost impossible to reach the summit.
Let me ask you this: what’s stopping you from letting go? What’s holding you back from embracing the opportunities that are right in front of you? For many people, it’s not the lack of opportunity but the fear of change, of the unknown, or of failure. I’ve been there too. When I started Inspired Recruitment, there were moments I doubted myself, held onto old ways of thinking, or replayed mistakes from my past. But the moment I consciously decided to let go of those doubts and fully embrace my vision, things started to change—not just for me, but for the people I’ve had the privilege to work with.
Letting go is about more than closing a door; it’s about turning the page and writing a new chapter. When we cling to old roles, toxic environments, or outdated beliefs, we limit our potential. But when we release what no longer serves us, we create space for growth, renewal, and incredible opportunities.
If you’re feeling stuck in your current role or hesitant to make a change, here are a few things to consider:
1. Reflect on what’s holding you back
What is it that you’re afraid to let go of? Is it the stability of a familiar job, even if it no longer fulfils you? Is it fear of stepping into the unknown? Take a moment to write down your thoughts. Sometimes, just seeing them on paper can be a powerful first step.
2. Honour the lessons of the past
Every experience, good or bad, teaches us something. Maybe you’ve had a tough boss or faced rejection in your career. Instead of letting those experiences define you, acknowledge the lessons they’ve taught you. For me, some of the toughest moments in business have shaped who I am today and made me a better leader.
3. Focus on the potential of what’s ahead
Think about the opportunities waiting for you. Picture yourself thriving in a role where you’re valued, challenged, and inspired every day. It’s not just a fantasy—it’s achievable, but only if you’re willing to let go of what’s holding you back.
Here are some practical steps to get started:
Journaling Prompts:
Ask yourself:
What are the things, people, or ideas I need to let go of, and why?
How have past experiences shaped me, and what lessons can I carry forward?
What does turning the page look like for me?
Affirmations to Guide You:
I release what no longer serves me and embrace new possibilities.
I honour the lessons of the past and welcome the growth they bring.
I am open to the infinite potential of a new chapter in my life.
Visualisation Exercise:
Picture yourself in an old, dusty library. Every book represents a part of your journey. Gently place the books of the past on a shelf and reach for a new, blank one. As you open it, imagine filling its pages with dreams, hopes, and the promise of new beginnings.
Remember, moving on isn’t about forgetting; it’s about choosing to carry forward only what empowers you. At Inspired Recruitment, we’re here to help you do just that. Whether it’s finding the perfect role, navigating a career change, or simply giving you the confidence to take the next step, we’re in your corner.
It’s time to let go of the old chapters and embrace the new. Your dream career is waiting—you just need to turn the page.
If you’re ready to take that step, get in touch. Let’s write your next chapter together.
